Titus just told me there is a place called "Mountain of Eternal Water" here in Costa Rica and I have to think of the reference in the Bible where Jesus says "but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." John 4:14. This mountain does not have a spiritual claim but a much humbler origin of a spring that has run for most of time. I think what draws me in the most is the world eternal. It is such a solid soft word that feels warm and conjures up many things. Only now it seems to have slipped from everyday vocabulary; replaced with "always" or "forever." These words do not have the prestige or history that eternal does and yet it has slowly begun to fade away into ancient texts and fables and that saddens me.Twice since I've been here I've heard "eternal" and both times, like a child lost in a fairy tale, I day dream about what wonderful adventures and stories these places could be.
Perhaps I am suffering from a glutenous indulgence in literature. Mary, the giver of words, brought me several books and like a camel at an oasis, I've sucked dry, my imagination bulging and am lulled to sleep intoxicated with fictional fantasies. Only two remain unopened like wrapped candy and taunt me, but I am still working on one so there is time. I've devoured the rest with little concern for body or food, choosing instead to slip between the textual covers where adventure is followed by romance, faith is strengthened, and the end is only a few pages away. How I've missed good literature and Mary, never failing, has delivered such. What shall I do when the water runs dry and there are no books left to read? What I should have been doing all along, writing one of my own. There is no excuse, I have ideas, I have inspiration and most importantly - time. I'm living a writer's dream and now I just need to write about it. Does blogging count?
Yes, blogging counts. You could just print them out, put a little prologue and epilogue and publish it!!! In fact, you could start an entire series, one book about every wild and exotic place you've ever lived!!! That would be awesome!!! I would buy them! And then I would start a blog like on Julie and Julia, where I travel to each one of your mentioned places and write what I discover about myself in these places!!!!!! THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!!!!!!
