Fire Lights up the sky

Down the street the jungle was on fire. I don't mean like camp fire, oh someone get a hose. No this was like blazing, you could feel the heat on your face, the night sky was red fire. It was so hot that crabs were scurrying sideways for their lives away from the bush like bumbling crustaceans. Gallon jugs were filled by hose and wheeled up the road. Once it was burning away from the street and towards the beach fire duty was halted and we all returned to our house.

Once things toned down two police and two turtle people showed up. I was confused what the turtle people could do, but you never know, maybe they were worried the turtles would get distracted by the light and head in the wrong direction.

During the middle of the night the fire continued to spread to across the street and down around the corner. RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET! Everything is charred black. I slept through it all and didn't have a clue how close to burning I came. The cool thing about the fires here is that they burn the brush, but they don't burn the trees. Whole fields will be black canvases and there are the trees, looking normal and alone, but untouched. I wonder what fire repellent they have, because what ever it is I want some. . . .
